January Aggregates

22 days into 2013 and for most parts of the UK we have seen snow falling, causing havoc on our roads and therefore restricting the construction and haulage industries. As you can imagine because of this the last few days have been a little bit slow compared to the the first 2 weeks of January in which we were swamped with enquiries on our return from the Christmas break.

Our first job of the year was delivering 20 ton of Type 1 MOT into Coalville, Leiceter. Our customer had spent the last couple days of his holidays digging out his old driveway and needed some Type 1 MOT to lay down for a compacted base ready for the next stage of his project. He plans to lay block paving on this at a later date so we quoted him for  some sharp sand which he will need.

In the first couple of days we also delivered two small loads to a customer in Pinner, London. He required 12 ton of Type 1 MOT and then 12 ton Ballast the following day. He was doing a house extension and needed the Ballast for concrete. He was laying the floor so would use the hardcore as a compacted base and then mix the ballast with cement to make concrete.

Last week was weather affected as the sub zero temperatures and snow slowed the construction industry down as sites closed including quarries we use and small businesses and home owners chose to or could not start projects. It did not stop everyone however, we supplied one site in Watford with 60 tons of Type 1 MOT just in time before the snow came. They have also ordered 40 tons of sharp sand for end of the week.

Overall we are pleased with the amount of work we have completed in the opening weeks of the year. We are confident this will continue and look forward to a busy year ahead.
